Steve Sharp

After playing music for a living with three different Portland area bands, Steve moved to Los Angeles in the mid 70's to seek his fortune. Finding the Hollywood rock scene a little less than inspirational at the time, Steve turned his sights to studio work. After completing the engineering courses at University of Sound Arts, he interned at two local recording studios for a year and then landed a job as 1st engineer at an up and coming studio in Studio City (natch)...a few doors down from William Shatner's house. One year later, the owner made Steve a partner and they changed the name of the studio to Juniper Recording. An amazing array of artists passed through the doors of that little studio in the hills...everyone from The Association and Tina Turner to The Ink Spots and David Hasselhoff.

Juniper moved from Studio City to a larger commercial space in Burbank a couple of years later, just up the street from NBC and Disney. After another slight name change to Juniper Post, Steve and his partner Geoff began pursuing film clients and soon became well known as a cost effective audio post facility. Many years of 16 hour days later, Steve decided that his time in L.A. was drawing to a close and began to formulate an exit strategy. That strategy worked, and he returned home to Portland in late '92.

Hollywood wasn't done with him yet, though. For the next two years, studios flew him to L.A. to do audio post on their films. In early 1995, they finally figured out that there might be a few guys right there in Hollywood who could do just as good a job without charging them for plane tickets and hotels. Steve was finally free to start his own company in his beloved Northwest.

The first incarnation of his new company was Columbia Sound Works. Two name changes and three commercial spaces later, the company has incorporated and grown to include web services and a production staff. Steve is delighted to live twelve blocks from the current SE Portland location of MediaPDX, and can be seen riding his bike down Clinton Street to work most days...assuming it's not snowing.
